THE PAST -
WHERE INDUSTRY MET WATER
Once the heart of East London’s coal trade, In the 19th and early 20th centuries Hoxton Docks buzzed with the activity of barges unloading tons of coal straight from the Regent’s Canal. It was a working hub built for heavy industry: strong brick warehouses, iron gantries, and a non-stop flow of fuel that powered homes and factories across the city. Hoxton Docks wasn’t just a dock — it was a powerhouse. The architecture — solid, functional, and industrial — reflected the tough, hardworking spirit of the era, leaving behind
a legacy of resilience and raw character.
